After an explosive game against Hartpury to kick off 2019, Scottish were looking for two wins from two in January. Powerful performances across the pitch from the Scots would be needed to overturn second-placed Ealing Trailfinders, who have only recorded a single loss at home so far this season.

With 7 changes to their side, Ealing were hoping to bounce back from a narrow loss to Bedford last week. They started strongly, their pack went to the try line off the back of a 5m line out. Alun Walker spun off the back to score. No conversion, LSFC 0-5 Ealing with just 3 minutes played.

Scottish were quick to reply; Hart, Stevenson & Eliet combined well in the middle of the pitch and pulled the defence apart. Mantella, spotted the space and sped through to score. Jennings converted to give Scots the lead 7-5, with only 7 minutes played.

Scottish heaped more pressure on Ealing and extended their lead further through Saracens loanee, Tom Griffiths. Scottish stole an Ealing line out on halfway, and moved the ball quickly through the hands until Griffiths spotted a hole in the defence. Jennings converted again, LSFC 14-5 Ealing with 11 minutes played.

The pack came to the fore for Ealing a second time, with Walker scoring his second of the afternoon. From a 5m line out, Ealing went 12 to 15 phases along the 5m line until finding a way over. Converted by Lydon, LSFC 14-12 Ealing. Scottish spent the rest of the half on the back foot, but neither side could add to their score. Defensively, there were some huge performances from Eliet, Harding, Stevenson & Tyas.

Scottish were first out of the blocks in the second half; Barton was on and upped the tempo immediately. Scottish were whipping the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, and Ealing were unable to hold their shape. Griffiths had the ball and space again and cantered through the defence from 30m out to score his second. No conversion, LSFC 19-12 Ealing with 41 minutes gone.

Ealing came alive on the 45th minute with their first proper piece of possession of the half. Scottish lost their own line out, Ealing carried into contact to build up an overlap, then they sent the ball wide to Cordy-Redden who just about ran into the corner. No conversion, LSFC 19-17 Ealing.

Ealing were enjoying the majority of possession, and were able to turn it into points. From a 5m line out, the pack did their job again. Ealing went 10+ phases along the 5m line, until Smid found his way over. Lydon converted, LSFC 19-24 Ealing with 20 minutes to play.

With 15 minutes to play, Ealing got their 5th of the afternoon. From open play, Ealing moved the ball around well. They slipped through the defence but were pulled down 5m short. Ealing recycled the ball quickly, and Cornish dived over to score. Lydon converted again, LSFC 19-31 Ealing.

Scottish attacked, but kept finding their way blocked. On the 77th minute, Stevenson and Barton slipped down the wing, a smart offload to Hodge who showed a turn of pace to score in the corner. Perry converted, LSFC 26-31 Ealing.

Ealing were not quite done, on the 83rd minute, former London Scot, Peter Lydon, nailed a penalty to deny Scottish a losing bonus point. Full Time, LSFC 26-31 Ealing. A huge number of positives for Scottish to take away from this game; they were clinical in attack, and defended well. Stand out performances from Tom Griffiths, Phil Cringle, and Billy Harding.
