London Scottish suffered their first RFU Championship defeat since before Christmas as their run of league wins came to an end against Leeds at Brantingham Park.

Scottish's five-game winning run came to a halt at Hull Ionians' Brantingham Park as they suffered a 26-3 defeat to Leeds Carnegie.

Scottish repelled heavy pressure from the home side to stay in the game at 7-3 down at the half time break but, despite an improved attacking showing in the second period, they conceded three further tries and were unable to get on the scoreboard again.

Leeds began the game strongly and the early skirmishes in the scrum went comprehensively in their favour. Fly-half Joe Ford was happy to kick to the corner from a succession of penalties and they quickly earned themselves the opening score. Jacob Rowan broke down the blindside and ran through 40 metres before feeding winger Oli Goss to crash over.

Scottish got themselves moving on the scoreboard with an excellent James Love penalty from 40 metres out before a more straightforward chance was struck against the post by the winger. And that was to be as good as it got for visitors for the rest of the match. Leeds continued to put Scottish in all sorts of trouble at the scrum and, though they couldn't break through before half-time, it didn't take long for them to extend their lead in the second period.

Rowan grabbed a second try for the home side just minutes into the second half, receiving a clever offload from Chris Walker. Ford's excellent touchline conversion handed Leeds a 14-3 lead.

Scottish then pushed forward strongly in attack and put together several good phases of play but it was eventually to no avail. They spent the best part of 15 minutes trying to engineer an opening but they couldn't get the try they needed and Leeds pounced on some tired defending as they raced away in the closing minutes.

Ford beat the Scottish defence to successfully latch on to a crossfield kick to score beneath the posts and Walker secured the bonus point just before the final whistle, as Leeds strengthened their push for a top four finish.

Scottish will be disappointed to have had their strong run of form ended and they will now look ahead to the visit of Plymouth Albion to the Athletic Ground in a fortnight.
