Scottish Suffer Cup Loss to Local Rivals

Scottish Suffer Cup Loss to Local Rivals

Back at the RAG for the second cup game this season against local rivals Richmond, London Scottish were looking to make it two wins from two. After a disappointing outing against Ealing last week, where the penalty count undid their hard work, Scottish looking to blow Richmond away with a ferocious opening 20 minutes.

Cold & windy conditions did little to slow Scottish down who controlled the game in the opening stages. Barton & Jennings’ speed in possession was causing all sorts of problems for the Richmond defence, but they held out well. As the half progressed, Richmond started to come back into the contest, but struggled to get past Uanivi, who was back in the team after spending the last few weeks away with Namibia, and Obatoyinbo.

Eliet, who has been blowing through defences all season, probed & prodded the Richmond defence with Mosses and Hart but they could not get that all important try. As it was, Richmond got the first points. After fifteen phases along the Scots 5m line, they couldn’t get over, so with a pen coming their way, they opted for the easy three points. With ten minutes to play, Richmond led 3-0.

Both teams put together some nice phases of play, but neither side were able to change the scoreboard before half time.

Conditions proceeded to worsen at the RAG, but that didn’t hinder Jennings who landed a huge kick from almost on the halfway line to level the score after 48 minutes. Scottish looked comfortable in possession and pulled Richmond across the park. Jennings extended the Scottish lead with 20 minutes to go, LSFC 6-3 Richmond.

It never felt like Richmond would get back into the game, however some strong carries from former Scot Ed Milne got them on the front foot. From a 5m line out, they charged to the line. Davies holding the ball as they crossed. Dennett converted, and they did just enough to see out the final 10 minutes.

Not a great game of rugby, but Scottish will feel disappointed they didn’t win a game they dominated.
