On a warm and sunny spring afternoon in Richmond, both teams came into the game knowing a victory would catapult them further up the table. Only a single point separated Scottish and Carnegie at kick off, and both teams went on the attack looking to take an early advantage.

After a positive performance last week against Coventry, Josh Barton started for Scottish and kept the pace of the game high in the early stages, pulling Carnegie across the park. Scottish took an early lead through Jennings, who scored an easy pen from 30m out.

Carnegie have not won 10 of the last 12 games without being able to put together some strong, attacking rugby. On the 10 minute mark they got the first try through Buckle, and then really took control of the next 30 minutes. The catch and drive from a 5m line out working nicely for them two more times. On the 32nd minute, Carnegie switched on the style to score their fourth try of the afternoon.

Carnegie pulled Scottish across the pitch with some lovely interplay until there was some space for Elder on the wing. He still had a lot to do and powered his way over three defenders to cap off a superb move from the visitors.

Scottish went on the attack, but were unable to add to their score before the end of the half. Halftime, LSFC 3-28 Carnegie.

Whatever was said to Scottish at half time had the desired affect, and they came out firing. Barton pulling the strings, Scottish spent the opening 10 minutes camped in the Carnegie half. Despite big carries from Jennings, Tyas, Griffiths and Bright, it was Carnegie who scored first.

On the 51 minute mark Carnegie moved the ball along the Scots 5m line. Massive tackles from Vukasinovic, Hodge and Saunders kept Carnegie at bay for the next 4 minutes until after 25 odd phases, Richard Mayhew found space to wiggle over. Converted, LSFC 3-35 Carnegie.

Scottish answered back straight away. Bright and Griffiths carried Scottish into the Carnegie 22. When Carnegie were forced to concede a penalty at a scrum, Bright went quickly, it was sent wide to Griffiths who ghosted through the defence to score. Jennings converted, LSFC 10-35 Carnegie.

Scottish gifted a try to Carngie on the 64th minute. Some poor passing handed Carnegie the ball on the Carnegie 10m line, a hopeful crossfield kick to nobody was fumbled and Forsyth scooped it up for an easy run in from 30m out.

The last 10 minutes was all Scottish. Hart was on, stretching the Carnegie defence. 74 minutes played, he created space on the wing for the backs to run into, the final offload to Vukasinovic who dived into the corner to score. No conversion, LSFC 15-42 Carnegie.

Bright added a third try right at the end. Vernon carried past the last defender, sent it wide to Mantella who tried a grubber through, but the Carnegie back was there first and carried it back over the try line. From the resulting scrum, Bright went alone to the tryline with the ball and two defenders to score a great individual try. No conversion, the game ended LSFC 20-42 Carnegie.

In the end, Carnegie were just too powerful up front, but credit to Scottish who did not give up and put together some nice phases in the game.

Stand out performances for Scottish from Tyas, Bright, Griffiths and man of the match, Rory Jennings.
