On a lovely spring afternoon in South West London, it had already been confirmed in previous weeks that Rotherham would be relegated, and London Scottish would be safe. This meant both teams were coming out to play for pride, and both wanted to end the season with a strong flourish.

From the off, Scottish came out of the blocks with some explosive power & speed. Huge carries from Ross Neal & Joe Luca Smith got Scottish onto the front foot. With 9 minutes played, Smith cut a line through the Rotherham defence, and was brought down on the 22. The ball was recycled quickly, and shipped wide to Kenny, who stepped his man, and made huge meters down the wing, a smart offload to Mosses on his shoulder sent him on his way to score. Sharp converted easily to give Scottish a 7-0 lead.

Scottish heaped pressure on the Titans defence, who were struggling to contain Neal & Smith on the wings. The pressure told, and the Titans were forced to concede two penalties, which allowed Sharp to keep the scoreboard ticking over. 17 minutes played, LSFC 13-0 Titans.

The Titans were looking to play, but the Scots defence was solid, and forced the Titans to knock on under pressure. From the ensuing kick to touch & line out, Scottish went for the catch & drive… it started slowly, but once there was momentum, there was no stopping it. Waldren was in control of the ball as Scottish marched over the line, LSFC 18-0 Titans after 22 minutes.

Despite these early set-backs, Titans continued to try to attack. They established a dominant scrum, and when they secured a 5m scrum, there was only going to be one outcome. They rumbled towards the line, before a pick & go from Andrew Foster found the whitewash. Ryan converted, LSFC 18-7 Titans after 28 minutes.

Scottish replied almost immediately; the Titans attacked down the wing, but ran into Atkinson who ripped the ball from the attacker & offloaded to Milne, who smashed his way through the defence. With two defenders looking to drag him down, he offloaded to Waldren who dived over to score his second of the game. Sharp converted to extend the lead to 25-7 with 31 minutes gone.

In the final ten minutes, the Titans used their dominant scrum to full effect. Scottish conceded a couple of penalties, which led to the Titans having a 5m scrum by the posts. After being penalised twice at the scrum, the ref awarded the Titans a penalty try & called for half time. LSFC 25-14 Titans.

Scottish came out in the second half with intent; Milne, Smith & Uanivi making huge meters in the centre of the field. Throughout the game, the Titans struggled to contain Smith & Milne. After another line break from Smith, the ball was worked to Uanivi who cut a line through the defence to score. Sharp added the conversion, LSFC 32-14 Titans.

From the re-start, Scottish gathered the ball and attacked again. The Titans defence was up quick, but Neal smashed over the defenders. It looked like Neal had knocked on just as he crossed the try line, but the ref said there was a knock on from the Titans. From the scrum, Scottish pinged the ball wide to Smith, who stepped and scored under the posts. Sharp converted again, LSFC 39-14 Titans.

Scottish continued to put pressure on the Titans defence, but they held firm until the 63rd minute. Atkinson & Mosses carried in the middle to put Scottish on the front foot; the ball was recycled quickly and sent wide to Ingall who stepped his man to run in a try by the posts. LSFC 44-14 Titans.

On the 69th minute, Scottish were going through the phases along the halfway line before Matt Williams produced the stand-out piece of individual skill of the match. Receiving the ball on the wing, with 5 defenders in front of him, he stepped through them all & sprinted away to score a solo try that will live long in the memory. LSFC 49-14 Titans.

Scottish attacked in the final ten minutes, but nothing came off. Final Score, LSFC 49-14 Titans. A great team performance from Scottish, with stand-out individual performances from Smith, Milne & Danny Kenny.
