Knights Come Out On Top in Try Fest

Knights Come Out On Top in Try Fest

Scottish picked up their third win of the season against Yorkshire Carnegie in the last round, and were now looking to build on that performance in front of their home fans, in the final Championship game until December.

On a wintery, and cold afternoon in South West London the Knights seemed to have come out of the blocks the quickest. They moved the ball around well, and made their way up to the 5m line, but Mantella read their play and intercepted the final pass. He collected the ball, and made 60m to score a superb individual try. In tricky conditions, Perry was unable to add the conversion… Scottish 5-0 Knights with 5 minutes played.

The Knights were quick to respond; they enjoyed a lot of the ball and made it count on the 10 minute mark. With some smart interplay between the backs, they sent the ball through the hands to James who showed a turn of speed to evade the defence and score. Morath converted, LSFC 5-7 Knights.

Mantella was back on the scoreboard again on the 18th minute. Knights moved the ball through the hands on their 10m line, the final pass was poor, and got slapped onto the floor by the Knights forward; Mantella scooped it up and scored another great individual try. Not converted, LSFC 10-7 Knights.

Having seen what Mantella can do, McColl fancied a bit of that himself. Scottish moved the ball along the halfway line, McColl read it and had just enough about him to evade the defence and score under the posts. An easy conversion for Morath, LSFC 10-14 Knights with 13 minutes left of the half.

Scottish answered back immediately to take the lead again; a big mix up among the Knights players from an up & under… nobody went for it, so Uanivi grabbed the ball, made some meters, offloaded to Tyas on his shoulder, who handed it to Smith who scored in the corner. Not converted, LSFC 15-14 Knights with just 10 minutes to play.

The Knights had a 5m line out on the 34th minute, and muscled their way to the line. Stopped short, then tried to pick & go… Civetta the man who eventually powered over. No conversion, LSFC 15-19 Knights.

The half ended with one more try, and a try-bonus for the Knights. The Knights moved the ball through the hands to Wilson, who stepped and sped past everyone from halfway to score; it was a fantastic piece of athleticism. No conversion meant the half ended, LSFC 15-24 Knights.

The second half began much slower, we had to wait until the 53rd minute for our next try. Scottish were enjoying the bulk of the posession and were moving it around the 22, nothing seemed on so the ball was sent over everyones heads to Smith on the wing, who had just enough space to dot down in the corner. Not converted, LSFC 20-24 Knights.

The Knights moved the ball around well on the 66th minute mark, with a penalty advantage the sent the ball high and wide to Wilson, who caught the ball on the run and dived over the last defender to score.  Morath converted, LSFC 20-31 Knights.

The game was petering out, neither team seemed able to put much together but there was still time for Wilson to grab a hat-trick. The Knights were deep in the 22, pulling everyone into the ruck; the scrum half spotted Wilson on the wing in space, sent the ball to him for an easy run in. Full Time, LSFC 20-36 Knights.

Both teams had spells on top in this game, but it was the Knights to capitalized on their possession the best. Stand out performances for Scottish from Uanivi, Vernon, Smith, & Mantella.
