London Scottish produced a courageous comeback in the second half to leave Goldington Road with a valuable 13-10 victory over Bedford Blues.

The Scots trailed 10-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining but hit back dramatically with a try from Dave Cherry, as well as two penalties and a conversion from Peter Lydon including one with just two minutes remaining to secure the win.

It was a somewhat underwhelming opening 40 minutes, with both sides struggling to adapt to the conditions under the floodlights but it was Bedford who held the lead at the break.

A penalty from Myles Dorrian after 20 minutes had given them a narrow lead, but a try with the last play of the half from Tom Griffiths who stepped the last defender ensured that with the conversion the hosts had a 10-0 lead at half-time.

The Scots came out with far more intent in the second half after a number of replacements were introduced and were only being denied a way back in to the match by handling errors and a lack of discipline.

On the hour Lydon kicked his first penalty of the evening to cut the deficit to 10-3, as his side continued to hammer away at the Bedford line.

It was now Bedford who were under severe pressure, which resulted in Jason Hill being sin binned after a number of infringements around the try line.

From the resulting penalty the ball was kicked to the corner, and gave the Scots the platform to launch a rolling maul. With the forwards inching closer to the line, Dave Cherry was able to rumble over the line for his fifth try of the season. Scottish now trailed by just two points, but Lydon's excellent touchline conversion meant that we went in to the last 10 minutes with the score level at 10-10.

It was clear that the next score was going to win the match, and it was very nearly Scottish straight from the restart. The ball was kicked down field, and Bedford took the risk of letting it bounce which allowed the Scots to steal it, but just as it looked as if Lydon was clear he was hauled down short of the line.

With four minutes remaining the Scots were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, which the Irishman kicked straight through to edge Scottish three points ahead.

Bedford looked like they would snatch a draw in the last minute but a penalty attempt from 30 metres went agonisingly wide, making sure that Scottish could celebrate their first win since October, as they head in to another London Derby next weekend when they host Ealing Trailfinders at the Athletic Ground.
