Former Scotland international Stevie Scott joins Scottish coaching team
Head Coach, Graham Steadman, has bolstered his coaching staff after Stevie Scott agreed to join London Scottish as forwards coach for the 2019/20 season.
The 45-year-old former Scotland international hooker boasts a very impressive playing CV. Having been born in Galashiels, he then went on to represent Melrose and Gala, which gives him an excellent Border pedigree. After this he signed his first professional deal for Edinburgh Reivers/Rugby, where he made an impressive 99 appearances.
After a glittering playing career, where he accumulated 11 Scotland caps, debuting in Auckland in 2000 against New Zealand, Scott decided to move into coaching and use the skills he had learned during his career.
Scott began his coaching with Selkirk before spending three years at the SRU Academy. Sale Sharks then came calling in 2010, where he stayed for two years before he made the step up to international coaching with the Scottish National side in 2013 as an assistant coach. It was during his time with Scotland that Scott worked with Steadman.
Scott will now guide the Scottish forwards for the 2019/20 Championship season and will look to bring some bite to a new forward pack with the likes of Alex Toolis and Kyle Whyte joining re-signed players such as Phil Cringle, Mark Bright and Lewis Wynne.
Scott has been looking forward to the challenge that coaching at Scottish poses:
“I am pleased to have joined London Scottish as forwards coach and am excited by the challenges of this squad and the rigours of the Championship.
It will be good to work with Graham again after our time together with Scotland and I believe together we can push the club in the right direction.”
President Paul Burnell is thrilled that Stevie has decided to join Scottish:
“Stevie joining London Scottish shows our intent for the upcoming season. I remember Stevie well from our playing days and I am certain the qualities he showed then will help the development of our players in this year’s squad.
I am personally extremely excited about Stevie and Graham working together with our young and ambitious squad.”
