On Saturday afternoon London Scottish will celebrate one of their most decorated backs as he is awarded his 50th appearance cap.

Miles Mantella first joined London Scottish on dual-registration from Premiership outfit Harlequins and was an instant hit as he scored ten tries in seventeen appearances. The following season the former Millfield pupil joined the Scots on a permanent basis.

The electric winger spent three more seasons at the RAG racking up 59 appearances with a prolific strike rate with 32 tries over these three seasons.

After brief spells away with London Welsh and Ealing Trailfinders, Mantella returned to the Exiles this offseason and has added a further eleven appearances and six tries to his tally this season. He will bring up his 87th appearance on Saturday against Nottingham.

During Mantella’s previous spell with London Scottish, the club did not acknowledge 50 appearances as a notable achievement. However, over recent seasons the club has decided to start awarding 50th appearance caps in response to the changing landscape of modern day Championship rugby and the fact players move more freely between clubs. Thus, rightly so, Miles will be awarded a belated 50th cap after the game on Saturday.

Mantella, who was named in the Championship Dream Team during his previous stint at the club, has been a force out on the field for Scottish over a five year period but he has also been a key member in the squad who is highly respected not only for his ability to get over the tryline but also for the experience he brings in the squad. These leadership qualities were recognised when he was appointed as stand in captain during this season’s Championship Cup. He is an important and well-respected member of this London Scottish squad.

London Scottish would like to thank Miles for his efforts over the years and would like to congratulate him on all his appearances to date. Hopefully he will bring up his 90th & 100th appearance landmarks over the course of this season and next season!
