London Scottish U12s played in a triangular fixture on Sunday at Rosslyn Park against the hosts and fellow exiles, London Irish.

The matches were on Rosslyn Park’s 4G astroturf pitch, which was a new experience and took some getting used to for the boys.  This was a useful experience as next week we will be playing on astroturf in Round 2 of the Middlesex Championships away at Chiswick.

The first match against Rosslyn Park was notable for an excellent individual try from Oli Davies following an interception near his own try line, but unfortunately Rosslyn Park proved too strong overall.

In the break before the second match, the boys practiced a more effective rucking technique, sealing with the player on the ground, keeping a low body position and protecting the ball.  The exercise delivered immediate gains in the subsequent match against London Irish, where the boys were far more successful in recycling second and third phase ball, building a stronger attacking platform and generating more momentum. London Scottish took an early lead, coped with a strong fightback from Irish, and finally levelled the score at 3 tries all.  It was a strong finish to the day to set us up well for the Championship matches this coming Sunday.
