London Scottish have named their side to take on rivals Richmond in their opening fixture of the 2018/19 Greene King IPA Championship season at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

Richmond will be the ‘home’ side this weekend with the return fixture taking place in April.

The Scots come into the game on good form after a successful pre-season tour in Scotland and a resounding victory over National One side Loughborough Students last weekend.

Head Coach Nic Rouse has selected a strong side with plenty of Championship experience.

Jordan Brodley is favoured at loosehead over Jonny Harris and will be joined in the front row by Jared Saunders and ex-London Irish prop Richard Palframan. Former London Scottish junior starlet Billy Harding is named on the bench after joining from Esher this summer. Phil Cringle is the tighthead named on the replacements bench.

Namibian international Tjiuee Uanivi is named at second row, two weeks after helping Namibia qualify for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, after a comfortable win over Kenya. He partners Australian and former Saracen Byron Hodge in the engine room.

Loughborough University graduate Luke Frost is chosen at blindside flanker as James Tyas just misses out on a starting spot. Lewis Wynne, on a season-long loan from Glasgow Warriors, starts on the openside and London Scottish Hall of Famer Mark Bright will skipper the side from number eight.

The halfback combination remains the same from the Loughborough fixture as Scotland international Grayson Hart is chosen ahead of Ed Hoadley. Hart will link up with former Bath fly-half Rory Jennings with Jacob Perry starting among the replacements.

Bath University graduate Craig Duncan is selected at inside centre with Henari Veratau unavailable and last year’s Supporters Player of the Season Ben Mosses still recovering from a knee injury. Duncan will partner Scotland international Richie Vernon who will start at outside centre.

The back three is unchanged from the pre-season clash last Saturday, with the returning Miles Mantella to start on the left wing and Charlie Ingall, who scored twice last week, on the right wing. Joe Luca Smith starts at full back. Explosive winger Rob Stevenson is named on the bench and will look to make an impact when he comes on.
