As we head into the final weeks of preparations for the new Greene King IPA Championship season, the focus now switches to getting the new squad ready for our opening fixture against rivals Richmond.

Director of Rugby Dave Morris and Head Coach Nic Rouse have assembled a very promising squad for the upcoming season. They have recruited some stellar names joining the fourteen members of last year’s squad who have all been retained.

Backs Ben Mosses, Ed Hoadley, Rob Stevenson, Charlie Ingall, Josh Barton & Joe Luca Smith have all signed on for another year. Forwards Tjiuee Uanivi, Phil Cringle, Dino Waldren, James Tyas, Jonny Harris, Matt Eliet, Pete Austin and Matt Marley have also all been kept on for another year at The Athletic Ground. Back rower Marley is currently playing over in Sydney, Australia.

Mark Bright will be returning to the Exiles lineup this season after two years away at Ealing Trailfinders and he will captain the side this season. Also joined is Miles Mantella who has crossed Kew Bridge and also joined from the Trailfinders.

Scotland Internationals Richie Vernon and Grayson Hart will be appearing in the blue and tartan this season. Richie comes down from Glasgow Warriors and Grayson has joined from Gallagher Premiership side Worcester Warriors. Scotland Under 20 international Lewis Wynne will be looking to lock down a starting berth at flanker this year as he joins Scottish on a season long loan from Glasgow Warriors.

There have also been some further additions from Premiership clubs and proven Championship experience with fly halves Rory Jennings and Jacob Perry joining the Scots from Bath and Hartpury respectively. Hooker Jared Saunders, formerly of Saracens has been signed from Jersey for the season and will be hoping he can bring his big ball-carrying to the RAG.

Two exciting prop forwards have joined the club from London Irish. Junior World Cup winner Tom Smallbone will link up with the side whilst working for project management company Tower Eight. Richard Palframan is the tighthead who will be part of the Scots’ squad this year.

Former London Scot Junior and England Counties Hooker Billy Harding has made the step up to the 1st XV from Esher in National One. Jimmy Litchfield and Jordan Brodley will also bolster the front row options as they arrive at the RAG from Coventry and Jersey Reds respectively.

Second rower Byron Hodge has followed Nic Rouse and joined from Rotherham Titans. Three players have graduated from Loughborough University and joined the forward pack. Hooker and former England Under 18 Ollie Adams, second rower Theo Vukasinovic and back rower Luke Frost will all add depth to Nic Rouse’s forwards.

Fellow University graduate Craig Duncan, who has just achieved a masters degree at Bath is also part of the Exiles squad and will be competing for a starting centre shirt along with fellow newly announced centre Henari Veratau who has signed with the club from Bourgoin.

London Scottish also have four players in this season’s squad who will be part of a Professional Entry Programme. Jack Ingall, Bradley Clements, Miles Wakeling and Matt Davidson are the four young entrants who will join Scottish and look to further their development with the side.

With squad set and preparations coming to an end, all focus is now on the final pre-season game against Loughborough Students, which will be a memorial game for Daryl Jelinek, and of course the hotly anticipated opening day fixture versus Richmond at the RAG.

Sadly Yiannis Loizias will no longer be joining the side after a complication with his knee injury which requires further surgery and subsequently he failed his medical with the club. He will now continue to work in London as he recovers from surgery, everyone at London Scottish wishes him all the best.
