London Scottish is looking to recruit a new head coach for The Highlanders.

London Scottish is looking to recruit a new head coach for The Highlanders.

The Highlanders is the club’s second team and in 2017/18 and in the future seasons, will form part of the performance squad at the club. This means training and playing with the first XV squad to create a performance pathway in which players can play together at a competitive level and create good depth within the club.

The club has a rich heritage and a very proud playing history with over 220 internationals and many British and Irish Lions. In the last few years the club has been on ‘The Incredible Journey’ back to the top levels of English rugby.
The 2017/18 will see the club taking a new approach and central to that is the club’s mantra of ‘Community, Championship, Continuity’

With this approach London Scottish will continue playing a vital part within our community and in the wider Richmond area, with the aspiration to be a very successful Championship club, by being sustainable through the continuity in what we do.

About the role:
To assume the lead coaching role for the London Scottish 2nd team, known as The Highlanders playing in Zoo Shield 1 and other high profile games within the season.

To assist with coaching across the performance pathway which will include coaching within the professional and senior squads including age grade games such as U19, U20, U21, U23.

To be available to coach Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as game days. Game days are normally on Saturdays but will also include some weekday evening games. Some weeks during the season the head coach might be required to coach on different days than Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

This is a part-time role but a vital role within the performance pathway and it will be supported by the Director of Rugby, the 1st XV coaches and the Rugby Director responsible for managing the performance pathway.

The ideal candidate will:

Hold a Level 3 Coaching Qualification in Rugby or currently be on a Level 3 course.

Have good experience at a high level in playing or coaching, or both, and is technically and tactically astute

Have ambition as a coach, and keen to develop their coaching career within a performance environment

Have good communication and mentoring skills and will be a good man manager. Good people skills are therefore essential.
Have a performance mindset, as well as a development mindset, so to develop players to reach their potential within our system

Have the ability to work with professional and semi-professional players, as well as the club’s ambitious senior amateur players and the young talented individuals in our system.

Ideally be able to start at the beginning of July 2017.

Have the right to work and live in the UK.
