On 31st July Ralph Eley (one of the U13 coaches) completed the Ride London – a 100 mile cycle ride starting from the Olympic Park and ending on the Mall via the Surrey Hills – on behalf of Children with Cancer charity.

So far Ralph has raised in excess of £1,500 but it would be really wonderful if this amount could be increased so any donations would be gratefully received on Ralph’s just giving website by clicking this link.

Here is Ralph's reflection of the day:

It was a great day an early 6:35am start from the Olympic Park but made even more memorable as one of the riders in my group was Martin Johnson the former England captain and a rugby legend.

Needless to say Martin was much quicker than me but I still felt a massive sense of achievement as I crossed the line in front of Buckingham Palace at 5 minutes past midday.

The ride completed in 5 ½ hours – the goal I had set myself but shared with nobody. At 40 miles things were going extremely well with an average speed of 22 miles an hour but Leith Hill and Box Hill slowed things down and that average soon began to drop.

However by the time I got back to Wimbledon the 5 ½ hours was still on and with the London crowds cheering I felt like Chris Froome as the finish beckoned. The pace came back as I swept down Kings Road onto the embankment through parliament square and onto the mall.
