London Scottish Head Coach James Buckland was impressed with his young squad’s performance and was pleased to claim a losing bonus point in Pontypridd.

Scottish were facing an uphill task when they trailed 23-10, but a last minute score from Connor Braid which was converted by Peter Lydon made sure of a point.

Buckland said: “I was really pleased with the younger boys who got an opportunity and it was fantastic to get the try at the end.”

He continued: “We wanted to see what the squad is made of and to come here to the house of pain and get a point is a great effort from everyone.”

With plenty of rotation in today’s match day squad, the Head Coach saw many positives: “Individually we were really pleased, the team could have been a bit sharper at times and maybe they come away wishing they got more out of the game.”

He added: “It was difficult for them, at one point we had Tod Gleave on the wing but they dealt with it well, they’ve built momentum and now everyone will raise their game. To be successful we need 30 guys up to speed and they showed that today.”

Scottish face Bristol next Saturday in what will be another tough test, admitted Buckland: “It’ll be another challenge for us but we’re back at home and it’s all to play for now.”

“We’re third in the Championship now and we know that it’s a marathon not a sprint. We’re targeting points from our next league games and after today we know whoever we need to call upon is ready.” Said Buckland.
