On arrival at the school last Wednesday, Simon and Serge were greeted by 42 enthusiastic young rugby players.

Simon led a session on attack, focusing on grip strength and handling whilst Serge worked with the pupils on the defensive side of the game, focusing specifically on the contact area.

After being put through their paces, the pupils enjoyed a well deserved water break before they had the chance to further impress the London Scottish coaching staff in a game situation.

“The afternoon was a huge success,” Director of Rugby Simon enthused.

“We wanted to push pupils to step outside their comfort zones and not be afraid of making mistakes. Focusing on both the attacking and defensive side of the game allowed us to do this. I was hugely impressed with the skill level that all pupils showed and would like to wish all at St George’s College the very best for the future.”

The afternoon’s rugby activity was concluded by Serge who worked with the group further on the defensive side of the game.

Serge said: “It was great to have the opportunity to work with such an enthusiastic, able group. I focused on the contact area, which, for me, is a huge part of the game. All the pupils worked extremely hard and displayed a great work ethic, which was pleasing to see.”

To conclude the day both Simon and Serge presented a jersey, signed by the London Scottish playing squad, to Mark Creen, Head of Rugby. They also provided pupils with a match day ticket to watch London Scottish’s clash against Esher last Saturday.

Mark said: “The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day. Having the likes of Simon and Serge coach you as a school kid must be pretty special. It was clear to see that all the pupils took a lot from the day and I would like to thank them both for their time.”
