London Scottish enjoyed a weekend of wins, as the first team, the Under 14s and the B’s all claimed victories.

After the first team earned a deserved 23-18 win over Moseley at the Athletic Ground on Saturday, London Scottish's junior and senior teams also enjoyed success with the B team defeating Honourable Artillery Company 43-26 in the Middlesex Merit Table and the Under 14s beating Ampthill 10-19 away from home.

The Under 14s enjoyed a much improved performance in their league victory – the contact skills and defensive work displayed by all members of the team were a marked improvement than in previous weeks and for large parts of the game, Ampthill found it hard to get into the Scottish half.

On a windy but beautiful morning, it was Daniel that put the first points on the board for the Scottish boys. A penalty reverse was quickly tapped and he sprinted clear from around 25 metres to put the boys into a 0-5 lead. The second and third tries were also down to Daniel’s fine athletic ability and rugby skills as he put two further scores on the board, the first from a scrum on half-way and the second following a steal from a maul. Josh and Iain added conversions for a 0-19 lead after 16 minutes of play.

Tom, Saul and Max were all playing their first games for the club and all impressed. Tom displayed excellent running skills on the wing; Saul, new to rugby, will without doubt develop into a fine player and showed great physicality and fitness from the off. Max combined superbly with Daniel and Noel in the back-row, causing constant havoc with some thumping tackles and threatening runs.

At the end of the first half. Ampthill did exert some pressure on the Scottish line and eventually drove over for a score. However, it took three attacking scrums and several forays before they managed to collect their points, such was the excellent and committed defence of the Scottish team.

In the second half. Ampthill enjoyed the best of the conditions and they did eventually manage another series of attacks that led to another forwards-based try. However, their score came too late in the game to influence the outcome. The Scottish team attacked well in the final ten minutes and just failed to convert one of the opportunities that would have resulted in the bonus-point. However the victory was a very welcome boost and gives the team confidence moving into the next series of games.
