Scottish and Welsh announce pre-season clash as exiles re-ignite old rivalry

Two of London’s most celebrated teams – the Welsh and Scottish exiles – will celebrate the 125th anniversary of London Welsh’s birthday next month, by locking horns for the first time in almost 14 years.

Two of London’s most celebrated teams – the Welsh and Scottish exiles – will celebrate the 125th anniversary of London Welsh’s birthday next month, by locking horns for the first time in almost 14 years.

Contrasting fortunes over the years have led to the sides not having played each other since 1996, when they faced off in a friendly at Old Deer Park, with Scottish triumphing that day by 22 points to 10.

But with both clubs enjoying their highest league finishes for a decade last term, the game – albeit a friendly – promises to be an early season spectacle that will be full of quality.

The match will be the first test for a London Scottish squad brimming with new talent, looking to join an equally ambitions Welsh outfit in the Championship, whom themselves just missed out on a promotion play-off spot last term.

For two of the current London Scottish squad, the day will be extra special, with Darrell Ball and Andrew Fahey having turned out in the colours of both teams.

Saturday 21st August, kick off 3pm at The Atheltic Ground, Richmond.

Tickets for the game are available in advance on www.londonscottish.com or on the day, priced at £5 for members, and £10 for non-members.

Get yours now, as this will be a spectacle not to be missed!
