At 06.30 on Saturday 24th April

(6.50 for some Wynne!) we meet at the Athletic Ground to set off for our South West Tour. There are sombrero’s, sunglasses and the Saints+Sinners toilet seat! It’s sunny and the forecast is good. The first stop is breakfast, the second is at Exmouth RFC. We are playing two games and unveil our new kit to the boys. The first game is very tight with both sides playing excellent running rugby. Our continuity is excellent and we run in five tries – Cam C, two for Zac J, Kees and Brandon. Sadly Exmouth have the Devon U13 100m, 200m and 400m champion at outside centre and he scores 4 tries to give Exmouth a narrow 29:27 victory. We rejuvenate with Gatorade…The second game we continue our excellent brand of rugby and win 17:7 with tries from Zac J and Cameron. The hospitality of the Exmouth team was fantastic – after a pasta lunch we set off for the English Riviera! Torquay. 7,500 young farmers are in town and tonight it’s a safari theme – there are herds of zebra, gorillas and even a parrot in the streets. We hit the beach (luckily the crazy golf is closed) and later move on to Hooks for dinner and the 2010 season awards. It was a tremendous evening, congratulations to all the boys. Our award winners were: Eddie (Most Improved), Jordan (Unsung Hero), James C (Back of the Year), Will (Forward of the Year), Zac R (Tackle Jackal), Sam (Player of the Year) and James F (Player of the Year). The night was a long one when we returned to the Travelodge…enough said! Fuelled by fried breakfasts we set-off for the next matches at Exeter Chiefs. The boys are tired and nursing some knocks. Our first game is against the Devon U13 Champions, Crediton, with some lovely backs. We start hard, with great line-speed in defence. The game is tight but we hang-on to win 12:7. Tries from Scott and Kees. We turn around quickly and play Exeter Chiefs. We’re really stretching our squad strength now. We score 4 excellent tries – 2 for Felix, Diep and Will – and win the game 24:5. We limp to the stadium and again have excellent hospitality before we head for home. The boys are tired. The parents are too! The tour stats: 7,325 haribo eaten, 3 wound dressings, 48m of elasticated dressing.A small hole in the ozone layer was created over Exeter with the amount of Deep Heat we used. 14 tries scored, 7 conceded… An excellent tour to end a fabulous season. Well done boys!
