London Scottish FC is to offer full time contracts for next season in a move to secure a solid professional presence in the National 1 or Championship League.

The offer will be made to numerous members of the current gold quad, including a group of young players seen as the key to the club’s long-term future.

London Scottish is currently second in National League One with ambitions to reach the championship in due course; the club has so far secured six promotions to climb back up the league pyramid after the original professional club went into administration in 1999.

Director of Rugby Brett Taylor said: “this is a sign of our ambition, but we should be clear we are not about to sign a [second string] squad from the Premiership on vast amounts of money; we are well aware of the dangers of over-spending at this level, given the number of other clubs in financial difficulty.

“Many of the players to be signed will combine training and playing as full time pros with developing their careers under our direction, some in business and some as coaches within our extensive community programme,” Taylor added.

In addition to this announcement the club will continue to field part-time players such as former England Sevens captain Simon Amor and ex-Scotland lock Iain Fullerton, who combine their London Scottish FC duties with full-time careers elsewhere.

Taylor also hopes to extend his full-time squad for next season with a handful of long-term loan players from Premiership side, supplemented by a further group of young players hand-picked from the club’s academy. London Scottish FC is still actively pursuing key roles for positions within the club, both in and around the current league.
