A season that has seen renewed enthusiasm and a large increase in numbers playing the sport thanks to support of the London Scottish community team.

More than 30 teams took part over 3 days, with matches running throughout the day as well as coaching master classes for those who wanted to remain active between games.

Coming away with honours were Gunnersbury, Orleans Park, featuring Player of the Tournament Cameron Cowell, Haberdashers’ Aske’s and Hatcham College.

Also worthy of a mention were Shield winners Kingsdale in the yr 9 tournament. Lee Rust, LS Community Development Manager said, “Kingsdale are one of the true success stories of the tournament. They had many players who were completely new to the game – it’s an emerging school where they historically don’t play rugby at all. They might have struggled in the group stages but by the time they got into the shield competition they were firing on all cylinders and eventually went on to win- a brilliant achievement!”

Grey Court themselves were very unlucky to miss out in the Year 9 cup tournament, just narrowly being beat in a nail biting final. Grey Court Year 7’s did however claim silver wear in the shield competition to round off an impressive first year of coaching under the watchful eye of their London Scottish coach and mentor Richard Caraffi.

Rust continues, “The level of rugby was extremely good and the spirit in which the schools played was fantastic. This was actually the last in a series of tournaments we have run for various age groups to finish off the season. We’re very keen to work in partnership with schools and give them more than just the standard coaching support, offering access to rugby camps, coach development, events and tournaments, and 1st XV match day experiences.”
