Under 14s match reports

23rd September

friendly

For a first outing against Reeds Weybridge and Staines the boys put in a fantastic performance.

The first game against Reeds was a tough affair - but very fair rugby - the boys set up some good platforms and protected the ball well - but with Reeds having asquad of 25+ it was always going to be tough - 3 tries to  0ne final result 19 - 5 but a tough gritty performance by the boys.

Reeds went on to draw against Staines - which gave the boys something to think about.

The first half against Staines was a fantastic performance - great phased play - the boys working the ball left and right led to 2 great tries by Tom Pace and the 3rd try was worked from strong phased play by the forwards - especially by the back row of Declan, Hamish and Mike - the forwards worked hard up to the Staines try line with Michael Gosling storming over
with 3 players on his back for 3rd try - all great tries in the first  half 19-0 Half time.

The second half saw good early pressure by the team - pressurising the Staines line - but no results coming - Staines began to work back into the game and they had a powerful last 10minutes which saw them Gain 2 tries - both converted - THE PRESSURE WAS ON!!!

The last 5 minutes saw Staines exerting huge pressure on the Scottish try line but the defence and tackling was monumental - tackle after tackle saw the defence stand strong and with the minutes ticking away there was a lot of tension on the touch line - with 5 minutes of extra time being played  for injuries the boys manage to win a turnover on their own line and clear the ball to touch - phew!! full time and a fantastic win 19- 14 Full Time.

All the boys perfomed fantastically - and the second game was a huge improvement on the first - even the Reeds coach commended our boys on their performance.

It is difficult to pick out anyone as all the boys contributed to the great result - the tight defense - hunger for the ball and great support play are all things that we can work on.

Well done the boys who started playing in new positions especially Greg at 2nd row - fantastic performance - strong in the contact areas and mobile - work on it - but all the boys deserve a huge pat on the back - keep it up.

Thank you to John Cann for giving the boys some sound advice and we shall see more of him.

We are away at Grasshoppers next week - details form Simon shortly - has anyone got the missing water bottle?? That's from Simon -just bring it along next week - we should have the new shirts in 2 weeks time.

Fantastic stuff - weel done all!!
