I must congratulate Tom Yellowlees and Charlie Baffour who played their first league game for the club. Although a rather one sided affair, I was proud of the team effort in sticking to the plan and not getting drawn into a lose game pattern.
Also shows the depth we have as there were ten changes from the week before. I must applaud all at Manchester. Six weeks ago they had three players at training. Now they are getting thirty plus. Their strength of character is immense and something that will make them successful again with this young squad being put together.
As part of my continuing effort to inform about the structures at the club I want to focus on the Academy process.
With the withdrawal of the SRU funding, the Academy process has now been brought under the CLUB. The aim to develop a ONE CLUB structure with different facets of player and coach development:
To develop a comprehensive rugby development program for players, coaches, teachers and parents – CORE SKILL CURRICULUM at all levels
• To create a Pathway of Development for U7 to 1st XV, Community to International.
• To develop an Elite Academy / Scholarship scheme to keep club players in the system, attract International / National Scottish qualified players.
• To develop home grown 1st XV players and coaches
• To produce Scottish International Players
• LSFC to become the Club destination for Scottish Qualified players, and not Wasps or Harlequins due to league, quality of complete rugby program and the Partnership with the SRU
