Look out for one of the Regiment's most distinguished soldiers, Colonel Sir Thomas Macpherson of Biallid, CBE, MC , TD, DL who will be in the stands and whose actions "single-handedly altered the course of the second world war".
Officer Commanding A Company, Major David Carter said: "The Troops are really looking forward to running out against the 5ths and the Pipe and Drums intend to lead the support for the home team in the big game."
The TA is an essential part of the British Army which trains and pays people from all walks of life to be soldiers and officers in their spare time. These people work alongside the Regular Forces on exercise and on operations. There are currently 4,500 TA soldiers inLondon of which approximately 200 are mobilised at any one time. The TA typically makes up about 8% of deployed forces in Afghanistan.
The London Regiment has bases across Greater London and forms the Territorial Army reserve to the five Regiments of Foot Guards. It has mobilised nearly 400 soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2004, 70 of whom returned home as recently as October last year. A further 10 soldiers are currently serving in Afghanistan with the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
