"This major appointment follows on from establishing a strong board, top level coaching and support, a professional squad of both young developing players alongside experienced ex-premiership players and is another building block in delivering success for London Scottish" said David Reid, Chairman of London Scottish FC.
Copsey has vast experience within the world of rugby having previously worked as Commercial Manager for the Scarlet’s; Managing Director for Harlequins and CEO at London Wasps.
Whilst at Quins he spent over seven successful seasons helping to mastermind a three fold increase in turnover and developing one of the best Rugby only stadiums in Britain.
After working at Harlequins he joined Wasps in 2007 over a season where the team won the Guinness Premiership title in front of a record crowd at Twickenham. The summer that followed saw him lead a restructure of the commercial division of Wasps - the success of this demonstrated by an increase in crowds at Adams Park, the 33,000 attendance seen at the ‘Battle of the Capitals’ game at Twickenham between Wasps and Leinster, and sponsorship agreements that included a £1million partnership with EMC.
Upon leaving London Wasps, Copsey set up ‘Copsey Sports Consultancy’ where amongst current projects he is working on the promotion and organisation of the London Wasps St.George’s Day Game at Twickenham next month.
Former Welsh international, Barbarian and professional Rugby player with the Scarlet’s and Saracens, Copsey will be working with the Scottish Exiles to further their rise in the National League 1 to the Championship and beyond. Last season they amassed over a thousand points achieving an unbeaten track record both home and away. Scottish currently sits in the number two position in the National League 1 table having lost only one game and won 20.
Tony Copsey said "I'm delighted to be working with London Scottish. They are a club who have big ambitions and a vision to get back to where they belong - in the top echelons of the game. I am very much looking forward to working with everyone associated with this great club in taking on the task in hand.”
