The fixture at the recreation ground last year was without doubt our toughest away game and was played in treacherous conditions. Ironically, that experience put us in good stead for Saturday’s win over Cinderford. It was a miserable day, on a miserable pitch and it was a fixture that had banana skin written all over it. But much like Redruth away, we rose to the challenge and ground out a victory, spearheaded through our ever impressive defence.
The winter period is notoriously a hard time of year for teams like ours. We like to play an expansive game and stretch teams out wide as much as possible. With the winter being as wet and cold as I can remember, it’s been refreshing to demonstrate to our supporters and our competition that we can adapt and win games in all conditions. I’m hoping (as I’m sure you all are) that the weather is starting to improve and we can get back to the expansive game sooner rather than later.
I have no doubt Redruth will approach today’s game with a similar mentality to the one we had prior to our away fixture back in November - It’s a loooong bus trip if you lose. I wish them well today, but I’m sure it will come as no surprise to them that we’ll be doing everything to ensure their trip back west is loooong and miserable!
