Scottish
host Touraid event
As
part of this week's Touraid event, the club is
hosting a group of Romanian boys on tour.
Altogether 120 children from Cambodia, Kenya,
India, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania, Rwanda,
Swaziland (photo below), South Africa and
Zambia, most of whom have never left their
villages before, arrived in London this week to
begin a trip of a life time. Scottish is hosting
training on Wednesday 26th and after matches at
Esher on Thursday they return to the club for
finals on Saturday before the Cinderford game.
Touraid
ambassador and former Springbok Chester Williams
will be attending.
Academy Director Rowly Williams said: "The
club is delighted to be associated with the Touraid charity and this U14 project in
particular by acting as a host club for Ariesul
Spartans and finals day host for the tournament.
Touraid is an outstanding concept bringing young
people in from all over the world, using rugby
as the medium to give them an opportunity they
will remember for the rest of their lives"

London Scottish 0 London Irish 56
Celtic Challenge 17th August 2007
Such was the score line, not that conceding
eight tries mattered. The objective was to give
Terry O’Connor’s new look squad some game time
against opposition who would pose all sorts of
questions.
And so it came to pass: against an Irish squad
lacking their World Cup picks and their
Middlesex Sevens Squad, but including most of
the remaining professionals and academy squad
players, the home players responded with strong
evidence that teamwork, organisation and
commitment will be up to the challenge of
National Three South in the coming season.
Moreover, while not scoring themselves, they
will be satisfied that they controlled the ball
for long spells, did in any case make several
line breaks, and defended well enough to staunch
the gentle flow of tries against with more than
20 minutes to go.
Whether O’Connor went away with many clues to
unlock the undoubted selection conundrum he
faces, is another matter,..
He
may well have a feel for what comprises his
strongest XV, but the Scots in the 1,200-plus
crowd won’t be any the wiser, as the squad took
the field in their smart new Rugbytech shirts
which had somehow arrived without numbers! As
Irish were wearing their training shirts, also
unnumbered, onl y a handful of insiders had much
clue as to the identity of the 60 players from
both clubs who rotated through four periods of
20 minutes or so each.
Still, it was a good exercise from a training
point of view; and from the social standpoint, a
big crowd, good food and the sort of camaraderie
you’d expect from a load of Celts on an evening
out, made the Celtic Challenge a terrific
curtain raiser for the season.
All that was missing was a decent pint
afterwards… somehow the landlord’s cellar system
failed, depriving the crowd of anything on
draught except – mysteriously, but our
reputation as good hosts - for the black stuff
which is as mother’s milk to our visitors!
A crowd of 1200
plus was entertained before and after the game -
the Celtic Duo (right) provided music for those who
attended the dinner

SCOTLAND A and
FRANK HADDEN VISIT LONDON SCOTTISH on THURSDAY
24th MAY
All
members, supporters, families and kids are
invited to a special open day at London Scottish
attended
by
the Scotland A Churchill Cup Squad and Coach
Frank Hadden.
There will be an exciting specialist skills
coaching session with the squad for youngsters
and the following is happening;
* Meet the Scotland A squad
* Special Coaching masterclass
* Autographs signings
* Q & A about Scottish Rugby
* Preview of Churchill Cup match v England
Saxons
* 2-5pm Bar, Café open for and refreshments
* LSFC Academy coaching and advice
Next Season's fixtures
The new
fixture list is out and can be
seen in full
here.
Scottish open
their campaign in National 3 South with a home
match against Luton, who won Midland 1 last
season - the equivalent achievement of Scottish
winning London 1.
However the first
big draw will be the next weekend when Scottish
travel to Rosslyn Park, whom we first played -
and beat - in 1888, or possibly earlier...!
Other highlights
for your diaries will be the return match at
home to Park on December 22 - which will almost
make up for not playing a Christmas game against
Richmond - and the fixtures with Ealing on 10
November (a) and the return on 8 March when the
club will also be televising the Calcutta Cup
from Murrayfield.
Another day to
set aside is 27 October. The week after the
World Cup Final, Scottish travel all the way to
Penzance to play Mounts Bay, winners of South
West 1 last season, and we suspect a long
weekend with optional golf might be on the
agenda for the travelling supporters!
There is also a
new points system to get used to: 4 for a win, 2
for a draw, and bonus points for either scoring
four tries or losing by fewer than 7 points. The
number of permitted substitutes is increased
from three to four.
Pre-season
training
Official start is June 18 but fitness coach Dean
Sutton is giving players a training plan for the
intervening weeks.
As
we embark on National League rugby once again we
are looking for players in a handful of key
positions. So if you
want to trial for the club please
click
here to email the coaching team
