Building on the success of recent years, the 2012 Burns Supper will be held in conjunction with the London Scottish Regiment in their Headquarters at 95 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 2DX, on Friday 27 January, starting at 7.00pm. Although the clubhouse in Richmond has served us very well over the years, the iconic Drill Hall, dominated by the Regiment's Honours, can accommodate larger numbers and hopefully will avoid the overcrowding or disappointment associated with oversubscribed events.
Following on from the Easter Tour to Passendale, which included a wreath laying ceremony at the London Scottish Memorial on the outskirts of Messines, the move will also serve to foster links between two historic institutions with a common heritage.
The evening will and include all the traditional elements and speeches, with LSFC stalwart Stuart Peel making a return appearance to Toast the Lassies and The Reply being given by one of the club's most enthusiastic supporters, Mhairi Buckley. The Haggis will be addressed by C/ Sgt Gordon Skilling from the LS Regiment.
The club has been fortunate enough to acquire the services of the noted speaker Hector Davidson, an eminent member of the Burns Club of London, to propose the Immortal Memory. We are also delighted to announce that we will be joined by the President of the Illinois Saint Andrew Society, Gus Noble. Established in 1845, the Society is the oldest charity in Illinois and has grown into the largest Scottish organisation in North America.
In a departure from previous years, the musical programme will feature Pipes and Drums from the London Scottish Regiment, in addition to the usual rousing stuff from Frank and Iain Mckay, who have brought the house down with their folk set on previous occasions.
This traditional Burns Supper is organised by club members for the membership, with any surplus being used to fund amateur rugby. Despite trying our utmost, it has not been possible to maintain last year's price due to increased costs, unrelated to the change of venue; therefore tickets are priced at £50, including VAT. To assist with travel, Club Sponsor GLH will be offering discounted rates on their cars. Please contact the LSFC Office on 0208 940 7156 for further details, or if you wish to attend what should be a hugely memorable evening.
It is hoped that the change from the traditional timing on Saturday to a Friday evening has not only avoided any potential clashes with fixtures, but will give members the opportunity to enjoy a day relaxing before the Sunday home game against Nottingham.
We look forward to welcoming you on the night.
Best Wishes for the New Year
Keith Macrae and Angus Stewart
