London Scottish FC International Highland Games held over June 5th and 6th was heralded as a great success by all involved. Hosted at their home ground of the Richmond Athletic Association, the traditional Scottish event was visited by people in their thousands and featured International athletes, world record attempts, pipe bands, highland dancers and a Scottish food village.

The London Scottish FC highland games is an event (which has historically been held at the Club in the 1970s) and has now returned to the London Scottish fortress. The games featured a number of international athletes and strong man events, in which world records were attempted over the weekends’ festivities.

Free Tunnocks biscuits were given out of the Tescos Scottish Village, where event sponsors’ Wisemans dairies passed around the milk, and Black Grouse samples were offered around with a splash of coke to enjoy in the sunshine. After that, all that was left was to enjoy the neeps and tatties from the Scottish restaurant, whilst watching the outcome of the highland and strongman events.

International Athletes from USA, Russia, Australia, Holland, Poland and others competed with the best of British in this year’s Highland games at London Scottish. Many athletes were instantly recognisable, with such masters of the games as Scott Rider (representative from England - Braemar Champion & Olympian) and Gregor Edmunds (representative from Scotland, World Champion 2007 & current World Caber Tossing Champion) who all attempted events such as Caber tossing where they also shot-putted their way to a successful weekend.

Douglas Edmunds of the Highland Games organising Committee said “The Highland Games Consultancy is delighted to be involved with London Scottish in bringing the Games to London. It was the biggest games in many years with the grand clash of champions from across the world.”

The Vale of Athol pipers (care of event sponsors Robert Wiseman), along with London Scottish Regiment and Clan an Drumma were beating and piping at individual events with Highland dancers performing throughout the competitions.

London Scottish is pleased to announce that in association with main sponsors Deutsche Bank we will be hosting a schools' version of the immensely popular Sky Sports television show, 'The School of Hard Knocks'. The initiative, which started on Tuesday, will form an impressive Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the likes of which are only normally associated with the Premiership's largest clubs.

During the half-time interval at the Nottingham game, London Scottish hosted a tag rugby game between girls from Waldegrave School and Grasshoppers RFC.
