North Walsham 12 London Scottish 17
A last-minute try from Charlie Broughton secured a dramatic win for London Scottish on Saturday, and ended the home side's impressive recent run of results.
The score was close and the win came late but in truth Scottish dominated most areas of the play and for long periods were only held off by skilful and dogged defending. On another day they would have earned a deserved bonus point for scoring four tries but Walsham - having beaten Ealing and Canterbury in their two previous home games - were not overawed despite having lost heavily at Scottish in September..
From the start Scottish besieged the home 22 and from a ruck skipper Alex Alesbrook powered over on the blind side for his seventh try of the season. Chris Micklewood stroked over the conversion to register his first points for the club.
The equalising score was very much against the run of play, Burroughs and Jager linking with full-back Thorpe for a score under the posts, which Dermody converted.
If Scottish were surprised to be only level at half time, that was nothing compared to the shock of going behind immediately after the restart after a lethal break by the same combination.
Debutant brought Scottish back within two points, trying his luck with a drop goal attempt after Mr Knowles had signalled for a penalty.
With a minute of normal time remaining, Gareth Swales' grubber kick down the line was perfectly weighted for Broughton to chase and touch down.
